The house hunting has not been going all that well. In the last month we've bid on two of the houses pictured below without success. After 3 months the house hunting adventure we've embarked on has worn me down, but I'm determined to not get too discouraged. There has to be a house out there for us and hopefully we'll find it.
Early '60s home with a fabulous original garage door
The last two were the ones we bid on. They both had amazing original features! We may still bid on the storybook ranch home since the location is great and it's a cute house but we were looking for something a bit more modern. Of course, we could always modernize it a bit.
At the moment the competition in CA is ridiculous with people bidding $20-30k over asking prices on homes they don't even care for and plan to gut just to get that $8000 tax credit and "own something."I don't get it. Frankly, the whole process is turning me off house buying a bit.

How annoying. It's the same here with people like my wife and I who'd love to own a house not being able to while some guy who just wants to flip it for a profit in a year can. And I know how expensive CA is for homes so when someone goes 20 or 30k over there's nothing you can do unless you're absolutely loaded with money.
Like I said on your flickr page, I dig the storybook ranch, but then I love charming cottage-style houses. I like the 2nd-to-last house as well. They're all nice.
I like all four but I love the last two, especially the garage dominated atomic ranch. Sorry you were outbid. Keep trying.

The market in your area sounds insane.
